    И пришел Иосиф и известил фараона и сказал: отец мой и братья мои, с мелким и крупным скотом своим и со всем, что у них, пришли из земли Ханаанской; и вот, они в земле Гесем.
    И из братьев своих он взял пять человек и представил их фараону.
    И сказал фараон братьям его: какое ваше занятие? Они сказали фараону: пастухи овец рабы твои, и мы и отцы наши.
    И сказали они фараону: мы пришли пожить в этой земле, потому что нет пажити для скота рабов твоих, ибо в земле Ханаанской сильный голод; итак позволь поселиться рабам твоим в земле Гесем.
    И сказал фараон Иосифу: отец твой и братья твои пришли к тебе;
    земля Египетская пред тобою; на лучшем месте земли посели отца твоего и братьев твоих; пусть живут они в земле Гесем; и если знаешь, что между ними есть способные люди, поставь их смотрителями над моим скотом.
    И привел Иосиф Иакова, отца своего, и представил его фараону; и благословил Иаков фараона.
    Фараон сказал Иакову: сколько лет жизни твоей?
    Иаков сказал фараону: дней странствования моего сто тридцать лет; малы и несчастны дни жизни моей и не достигли до лет жизни отцов моих во днях странствования их.
    И благословил фараона Иаков и вышел от фараона.
    И поселил Иосиф отца своего и братьев своих, и дал им владение в земле Египетской, в лучшей части земли, в земле Раамсес, как повелел фараон.
    И снабжал Иосиф отца своего и братьев своих и весь дом отца своего хлебом, по потребностям каждого семейства.
    И не было хлеба по всей земле, потому что голод весьма усилился, и изнурены были от голода земля Египетская и земля Ханаанская.
    Иосиф собрал все серебро, какое было в земле Египетской и в земле Ханаанской, за хлеб, который покупали, и внес Иосиф серебро в дом фараонов.
    И серебро истощилось в земле Египетской и в земле Ханаанской. Все Египтяне пришли к Иосифу и говорили: дай нам хлеба; зачем нам умирать пред тобою, потому что серебро вышло у нас?
    Иосиф сказал: пригоняйте скот ваш, и я буду давать вам за скот ваш, если серебро вышло у вас.
    И пригоняли они к Иосифу скот свой; и давал им Иосиф хлеб за лошадей, и за стада мелкого скота, и за стада крупного скота, и за ослов; и снабжал их хлебом в тот год за весь скот их.
    И прошел этот год; и пришли к нему на другой год и сказали ему: не скроем от господина нашего, что серебро истощилось и стада скота нашего у господина нашего; ничего не осталось у нас пред господином нашим, кроме тел наших и земель наших;
    для чего нам погибать в глазах твоих, и нам и землям нашим? купи нас и земли наши за хлеб, и мы с землями нашими будем рабами фараону, а ты дай нам семян, чтобы нам быть живыми и не умереть, и чтобы не опустела земля.
    И купил Иосиф всю землю Египетскую для фараона, потому что продали Египтяне каждый свое поле, ибо голод одолевал их. И досталась земля фараону.
    И народ сделал он рабами от одного конца Египта до другого.
    Только земли жрецов не купил, ибо жрецам от фараона положен был участок, и они питались своим участком, который дал им фараон; посему и не продали земли своей.
    И сказал Иосиф народу: вот, я купил теперь для фараона вас и землю вашу; вот вам семена, и засевайте землю;
    когда будет жатва, давайте пятую часть фараону, а четыре части останутся вам на засеяние полей, на пропитание вам и тем, кто в домах ваших, и на пропитание детям вашим.
    Они сказали: ты спас нам жизнь; да обретем милость в очах господина нашего и да будем рабами фараону.
    И поставил Иосиф в закон земле Египетской, даже до сего дня: пятую часть давать фараону, исключая только землю жрецов, которая не принадлежала фараону.
    И жил Израиль в земле Египетской, в земле Гесем, и владели они ею, и плодились, и весьма умножились.
    И жил Иаков в земле Египетской семнадцать лет; и было дней Иакова, годов жизни его, сто сорок семь лет.
    И пришло время Израилю умереть, и призвал он сына своего Иосифа и сказал ему: если я нашел благоволение в очах твоих, положи руку твою под стегно мое и клянись, что ты окажешь мне милость и правду, не похоронишь меня в Египте,
    дабы мне лечь с отцами моими; вынесешь меня из Египта и похоронишь меня в их гробнице

    And Joseph came and informed Pharaoh and said: my father and my brothers, with their small and large cattle and with everything that they had, came from the land of Canaan; and behold, they are in the land of Goshen.
    And he took five of his brothers and introduced them to Pharaoh.
    And Pharaoh said to his brothers, What is your occupation? They said to Pharaoh: the shepherds of the sheep are thy servants, and we and our fathers.
    And they said unto Pharaoh, We have come to live in this land, because there are no pasture for your cattle, for there is great famine in the land of Canaan; so let your servants settle in the land of Goshen.
    And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Thy father and thy brothers have come to you;
    the land of Egypt is before you; in your best place on earth have settled your father and your brothers; may they live in the land of Goshen; and if you know that there are capable people between them, put them overseers over my cattle.
    And Joseph brought Jacob his father, and introduced him to Pharaoh; and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.
    Pharaoh said to Jacob: How many years of your life?
    Jacob said to Pharaoh: The days of my pilgrimage are one hundred and thirty years; the days of my life are small and miserable, and have not reached the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their wanderings.
    And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from Pharaoh.
    And Joseph settled his father and his brothers, and gave them possession in the land of Egypt, in the best part of the land, in the land of Raamses, as Pharaoh commanded.
    And Joseph supplied his father and his brothers and the whole house of his father with bread, according to the needs of each family.
    And there was no bread throughout the whole earth, because the famine was greatly intensified, and the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan were exhausted from hunger.
    Joseph collected all the silver that was in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan for the bread they bought, and Joseph brought silver into the house of the pharaohs.
    And silver was exhausted in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan. All the Egyptians came to Joseph and said: give us bread; why should we die before you, because silver has come out with us?
    Joseph said: Drive your cattle, and I will give you for your cattle, if the silver has left you.
    And they drove their cattle to Joseph; and Joseph gave them bread for horses, and for herds of small livestock, and for herds of cattle, and for donkeys; and supplied them with bread that year for all their cattle.
    And this year passed; and they came to him the next year and said unto him, We will not hide from our master that the silver was exhausted, and the herds of our cattle with our master; nothing remained with us before our lord, except for our bodies and our lands;
    why should we perish in your eyes, and for us and our lands? Buy us and our lands for bread, and we and our lands will be slaves to the Pharaoh, and you give us seeds so that we can be alive and not die, and that the earth will not be empty.
    And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, because the Egyptians sold each their field, for hunger prevailed over them. And the land went to Pharaoh.
    And he made the people slaves from one end of Egypt to the other.
    Only the land of the priests did not buy, for the priests from the pharaoh laid a plot, and they ate their own plot, which the pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their land.
    And Joseph said to the people: Behold, now I have bought you and your land for Pharaoh; there you have seeds, and sow the earth;
    when the harvest is ready, give the fifth part to Pharaoh, and the four parts will remain for you to sow the fields, to feed you and those in your houses, and to feed your children.
    They said: you saved our life; may we receive mercy in the eyes of our lord and may we be slaves to Pharaoh.
    And Joseph set the law of the land of Egypt, even to this day: to give the fifth part to Pharaoh, excluding only the land of the priests, which did not belong to Pharaoh.
    And Israel lived in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen, and they possessed it, and multiplied, and multiplied greatly.
    And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt for seventeen years; and it was the days of Jacob, the years of his life, one hundred and forty-seven years.
    And the time came for Israel to die, and he called his son Joseph and said to him: if I have found favor in your eyes, put your hand under my quilted coat and swear that you will show me mercy and truth, that you will not bury me in Egypt,
    that I may lie with my fathers; take me out of Egypt and bury me in their tomb
