It was a long time ago, somewhere at the very end of the last millennium. I am driving in the car, and somehow this song appears; arises by itself; I don't remember anyone putting it on purpose. It just came out then - probably on the radio.
It sounded, it came to the chorus - and suddenly the horizon moved apart; I have never heard such music: as if from a dry desert of an unknown world they are singing to me about feelings that have no human name. And the rhythm, and the strength, and the beauty of this song captured and did not let go.
This is how the Red Hot Chili Peppers entered my life.

Of course, I've heard of them before. By the time the album "Californication" was released, the Red Hot Chili Peppers could hardly be called a new and young band.
They were formed back in 1983, when they were still in school. Called "Tony Flow and the Wonderfully Regal Masters of Lawlessness," their very first performance in a 30-person club attracted the public so much that they were invited again. Struck by their unexpected success, they immediately changed their name to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. And they were so good that a few months after their debut, the largest company EMI offered them a contract.
They grew up in California, bursting with sunlight and testosterone; and their often flammable mixture of funk, punk, rap and Hendrix was performed completely naked by them. If they were in Siberia, it could have destroyed them - in California, on the contrary, it had a positive effect on their reputation. Well, to avoid accusations of indecent behavior, they began to wear long white socks on strategic parts of their anatomy. Inspired by their success, they even posed for the cover of one of their single in their favorite costumes at the Abbey Road crossing.
However, they were not limited to posing in socks, but continued to play, play and play again. And it began to bear fruit. The first four albums, although making them more and more famous, did not show miracles.
But the fifth album "Blood Sugar Sex Magic" (Blood Sugar Sex Magik) radically changed the picture.

Rick found an abandoned house, brought in some recording equipment, and for a month Anthony Kiedis, Michael "Flea" Balzary and Frusciante did not leave this house. Drummer Chad Smith, however, refused to live there, saying the house was full of ghosts. The resulting album "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" became an international sensation, selling over 12 million copies.

However, the album's success and newfound stardom played a bad joke on the band. The Red Hot Chili Peppers have always been famous for their absolute intemperance in everything; but if the three main whales - Anthony Kiedis, Flea and Chad Smith - held the blow, then the fragile Frusciante began to sink, and the easily accessible heavy pharmacology completely finished him.
