Тексты на эту мелодию существуют на 80 языках мира, а вот авторы слов и музыки большинству неизвестны. Самое первое название этой песни – «Bei mir bist du scheyn» («Для меня ты самая красивая…») Так что изначально это лирическая песня о любви, она была написана на идише, музыку сочинил Шолом Секунда, а слова – Якоб Якобс. Песня написана в 1932 году для мюзикла «I would if I could», «Сделаю, если смогу». Шолом Секунда родился на Украине, в 1907 году его семья переехала в Нью-Йорк. Родители хотели видеть его врачом или адвокатом, но учеба требовала значительных средств, которыми семья не располагала. К тому же Шолом с детства тянулся к музыке. В 1919 году он окончил Институт музыкального искусства и стал работать дирижером в Нью-Йоркском Еврейском театре. Именно там и был поставлен в 1932 году мюзикл «I would if I could», А в нем впервые прозвучала песня «Бай мир бисту шэйн». В 33-м году песня разошлась в количестве 10 000 копий, а слова были переведены на многие языки, в том числе японский. Особенно популярной она стала после того, как её исполнил на английском языке знаменитый в то время ансамбль «Сестры Эндрюс». Авторами английского текста были Сэмми Кон и Сол Чаплин. У нас же в России эта песня известна под названием «Моя Красавица» (в исполнении Леонида Утесова), а в народном варианте – «В Кейптаунском порту, с какао на борту, «Жанетта» поправляла такелаж». Этот текст был написан в 1940 году учеником 9 класса 242-й ленинградской школы Павлом Гандельманом. Много лет спустя Павел Моисеевич вспоминал: « Ни в каком Кейптауне, тем более, в его кабаках я тогда даже в снах не бывал! Но всюду звучали шлягеры на подобные темы: «Девушка из маленькой таверны», «В таинственном шумном Сайгоне», они возникали ниоткуда, никто не знал из авторов, но пели их все. И мне захотелось сочинить что-то подобное, такую сокрушительно-кровавую песню на популярный мотив». Свою «Жанетту» Гандельман писал большей частью на уроках, начал ее сочинять вместе с одноклассником Трудославом Залесовым, но тот быстро к делу охладел, и авторство стало целиком принадлежать Павлу. Каждый новый куплет зачитывался одноклассникам, которые его утверждали. Особо следует отметить, что сразу несколько вариантов на эту мелодию исполнял Леонид Утесов. Например, во время Великой Отечественной войны, в 1942-1943 годах, она была записана на слова «Барон фон дер Пшик» в качестве убийственной антигитлеровской сатиры джаз-оркестром под управлением Утесова. Также Леонид Осипович исполнял «Мою Красавицу», а еще историю о том, как « Старушка, не спеша, дорожку перешла, ее остановил милицанер…». Но авторство этих текстов не установлено. Sholem Secunda was born in Ukraine, in 1907 his family moved to New York. His parents wanted to see him as a doctor or a lawyer, but his studies required significant funds, which the family did not have. In addition, Sholom was drawn to music since childhood.

It was there that the musical “I would if I could” was staged in 1932, and the song “Bai mir beastu shane” was first performed there.

This text was written in 1940 by Pavel Gandelman, a student of the 9th grade of the 242nd Leningrad school. Many years later, Pavel Moiseevich recalled: “In any Cape Town, especially in its taverns, I did not even dream at that time!
