Евангелие от Матфея, Глава 4, стих 25, Глава 5, стихи 1-13. 25 И следовало за Ним множество народа из Галилеи и Десятиградия, и Иерусалима, и Иудеи, и из-за Иордана. ГЛАВА 5. 1 Увидев народ, Он взошел на гору; и, когда сел, приступили к Нему ученики Его. 2 И Он, отверзши уста Свои, учил их, говоря: 3 Блаженны нищие духом, ибо их есть Царство Небесное. 4 Блаженны плачущие, ибо они утешатся. 5 Блаженны кроткие, ибо они наследуют землю. 6 Блаженны алчущие и жаждущие правды, ибо они насытятся. 7 Блаженны милостивые, ибо они помилованы будут. 8 Блаженны чистые сердцем, ибо они Бога узрят. 9 Блаженны миротворцы, ибо они будут наречены сынами Божиими. 10 Блаженны изгнанные за правду, ибо их есть Царство Небесное. 11 Блаженны вы, когда будут поносить вас и гнать и всячески неправедно злословить за Меня. 12 Радуйтесь и веселитесь, ибо велика ваша награда на небесах: так гнали и пророков, бывших прежде вас. 13 Вы – соль земли. Если же соль потеряет силу, то чем сделаешь ее соленою? Она уже ни к чему негодна, как разве выбросить ее вон на попрание людям. Комментирует иеромонах Феоктист Игумнов. Церковь, основываясь на только что услышанных нами словах Господа Иисуса Христа и многовековом опыте Своих святых утверждает, что существует некая чёткая последовательность восхождения к святости и, следовательно, к Богу. Церковь говорит, что невозможно стать гонимым за Имя Христово, если, к примеру, ты не стал миротворцем. А стать миротворцем невозможно без кротости. Невозможно оказаться на верхней ступени, не пройдя нижние. Невозможно проехать на лифте сразу на верхний этаж, христианская лестница восхождения к Богу не подразумевает наличия лифтов и эскалаторов. Лестницу восхождения к Богу необходимо самостоятельно пройти от первой ступени до последней. Конечно, скорость восхождения может сильно разниться. История Церкви знает самые разные примеры скорости достижения верхних ступеней лестницы Христовых заповедей. К примеру, житие преподобного Симеона Столпника говорит, что преподобный Симеон начал своё христианское восхождение будучи тринадцатилетним мальчиком. Его аскетические подвиги удивляли современников и вместе с удивлением они вызывали сомнение в том, Бог ли источник и причина этой аскезы. Рассказывают, что для проверки к преподобному Симеону были посланы старшие монахи с повелением сойти с места, то есть оставить подвиг. И преподобный Симеон послушал старших. Тем самым он показал, что низшие ступени духовного восхождения им уже пройдены, что он имеет кротость и чистоту, что он стал миротворцем. Если вдруг в какой-то момент нам начинает казаться, что мы подвизаемся за правду и потому бываем гонимы, что те напасти, которым мы подвергаемся, происходят во имя Христово, то стоит себя проверить: а не проломились ли подо мной ступеньки, есть ли во мне кротость? Слышу ли я и слушаю ли окружающих? И свободно ли моё сердце от нечистых, скверных и страстных движений? И если ответ на хотя бы один из этих вопросов будет отрицательным, то, увы, гонения и напасти не имеют отношения ко Христу и Его правде, они всего лишь следствие нашей неуживчивости и, подчас, глухоты. А раз так, то стоит переключить все своё внимание на самую первую ступень восхождения — на нищету духовную, которая есть очень непростое умение не мыслить о себе много и видеть свою неправду. CHAPTER 5.
1 When he saw the people, he went up the mountain; and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.
2 And he, having opened his mouth, taught them, saying:
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will have mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are cast out for righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are you when they reproach you and persecute you, and in every possible way unrighteously curse you for Me.
12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven: thus they also persecuted the prophets who were before you.
13 You are the salt of the earth. If the salt loses its strength, then how can you make it salt? She is no longer worthless, how could she throw her out for trampling people.

The Church, based on the words we just heard of the Lord Jesus Christ and the centuries-old experience of His saints, claims that there is a certain clear sequence of ascension to holiness and, therefore, to God. The church says that it is impossible to become persecuted for the Name of Christ, if, for example, you did not become a peacemaker. And to become a peacemaker is impossible without meekness. It is impossible to be on the top step without going through the bottom. It is impossible to take the elevator directly to the upper floor; the Christian staircase to God does not imply the availability of elevators and escalators. The ladder of ascension to God must independently pass from the first step to the last. Of course, the climbing speed can vary greatly. The history of the Church knows the most varied examples of the speed of reaching the upper steps of the ladder of Christ's commandments. For example, the life of Rev. Simeon the Pillar says that Rev. Simeon began his Christian ascent as a thirteen-year-old boy. His ascetic exploits surprised his contemporaries and, together with surprise, they cast doubt on whether God is the source and cause of this austerity. They say that for the test, the monks were sent to the Monk Simeon with the command to leave the place, that is, to leave the feat. And Rev. Simeon listened to the elders. Thus, he showed that he had already passed the lower levels of spiritual ascent, that he has meekness and purity, that he became a peacemaker.
If suddenly at some point it begins to seem to us that we are struggling for the truth and therefore we are persecuted, that the misfortunes we are exposed to come in the name of Christ, then we should check ourselves: are there steps underneath under me, are there me meekness? Do I hear and listen to others? And is my heart free from unclean, nasty and passionate movements?
And if the answer to at least one of these questions is negative, then, alas, persecution and adversity are not related to Christ and His truth, they are just a consequence of our inanimity and, sometimes, deafness. And if so, then it is worth shifting all your attention to the very first step of climbing - spiritual poverty, which is a very difficult ability not to think a lot about yourself and see your own untruth.
