— А когда тебя не было, ты где-нибудь был? — Угу. — Где? — Там, — сказал Ёжик и махнул лапой. — Далеко? Ёжик съежился и закрыл глаза. ************** Жил-был в лесу Ёжик-иголка. Был у него дом с печкой лампочка в дому из гриба-лисички и полная кладовая припасов. Но все Ёжику чего-то хотелось... — Неспокойно мне, — говорил он Васильку. — Вот здесь мутит, — показывал на грудь. — К морю хочется. Василек никогда не видел моря, и поэтому говорил: — Зря ты печалишься, Ёжик. Посмотри, какой я красивый, взгляни, как высоки сосны, послушай, как птицы поют! И все тебя здесь, в лесу, знают и любят. Но Ёжик с каждым днем печалился все больше. — Хочется мне к морю! — жаловался он Муравью. — А какое оно? — спрашивал Муравей. — Большое. Но я его никогда не видел. И вот как-то ранним утром, когда в небе еще плавали молочные звезды. Ёжик вышел из своего домика и пошел к морю. В лапе у него была палка, а за плечом — котомка с едой. Сначала он шел лесом, и птицы пели над ним, и трава, мокрая от росы, шуршала под ногами. Потом лес кончился, и путь Ёжику преградила река. — Эй! — крикнул Ёжик. И по всей реке понеслось: «Эй-эй-эй!..» — Ты чего кричишь? — спросила, подлетев, Утка. — Переправиться надо, — сказал Ёжик. И Утка подставила ему свою спину и перевезла на другой берег. — Спасибо, Утка, — сказал Ёжик и зашагал дальше. Теперь он шел по огромному лугу. Трещали кузнечики, звенели стеклянными крылышками стрекозы, и где-то высоко в небе распевал жаворонок. Долго ли шел Ёжик, коротко ли, он вышел к морю. — Здравствуй, море! — сказал Ёжик. — Здравствуй, Ёжик! — сказало море. И накатилась волна. «Пффф-ф!.. — ударила она в берег. — Шшшш...» — зашуршала по камушкам, отступая. И Ёжик тоже сделал шаг вперед и сказал: «Пффф-ф!.. — и, отбежав немного: — Шшш-ш!..» — Я на тебя похож, да? — Очень! — сказало море. И снова ударило волной в берег. Целый день Ёжик играл с морем: то подбегал к самой воде, то отбегал прочь. Засыпая на песке под скалой, он поеживался, и ему казалось, что он тоже — маленькое море на четырех лапах. «Пффф-ф!.. — бормотал он себе под нос. — Шшш-ш!..» И подымал и опускал иголки.
