Awake (Rus. Wake up; in reality) is the third studio album of the progressive metal band Dream Theater, released on October 4, 1994 on the East West label and became the last album in which keyboardist Kevin Moore took part. This album is also marked by the fact that it became the first in the history of Dream Theater, when all members of the collective were engaged in composing music and lyrics. On July 2, 2008, The Metal Archives Awake database was named Dream Theater's best album. Murat Batmaz, a correspondent for Sea of Tranquility, a popular progressive rock and metal publication, views Awake as one of “amazing, deep and endless masterpieces” and “beautiful.”
In May 1994, Dream Theater began recording a new album. It had a heavier sound than previous albums, which could serve as a basis for sharing opinions about the album. Shortly after the album was mixed, Kevin Moore let the rest of the Dream Theater know that he wanted to concentrate on his musical interests and leave the band. As a result of this, the group was forced to urgently look for a new keyboard player before planning the next tour.
An unknown at that time in rock music circles, promising keyboard player Jordan Rudes, was invited to Moore's place. The group planned to play a trial concert with him in the hope that he would join the group. Although the concert in Burbank, California, went well, Rudes decided to accept the invitation from The Dixie Dregs instead of Dream Theater. As a keyboard player, Derek Sherinyan was hired, who, according to the results of the tour in support of Awake, became the new permanent Dream Theater keyboard player.
Some time after recording the album, James LaBri suffered a terrible case of food poisoning and tore the vocal cords during vomiting. Doctors advised the vocalist to give the vocal cords a long rest, so he could regain his vocal data, but against their wishes he took part in the tour. Both fans and critics noticed a big dramatic change in the tone and range of his voice.

Space-Dye Vest (Rus. Cosmic color vest) - the eleventh and final composition, lasting 7 minutes 30 seconds. It was written entirely by the keyboard player of the group Kevin Moore, and mainly consists of a gloomy, brooding duo between Moore, who plays the piano, and vocalist James LaBri, until the rest of the collective enters, giving the composition a glow and drama. The composition ends with Moore's solo on keyboards.
The composition is known for never being performed by a group at concerts. Kevin Moore left the band after the song was included on the album. Some members of the group expressed the opinion that they did not want to perform it without Mura, since the rights to the song belong to Mura. The current keyboard player, Jordan Rude
