    Janet:
    Hello
friends. Welcome to another episode of the
    English Tonight
Podcast. My name is Janet and I am the host of this
    show
    . This is
    episode
    #
    4. I want to thank you for taking time out of your busy day and life to
    listen
to this podcast. To find a free written transcript of this podcast,
    please go to

    .
    Before
getting started, I would like to say hello or shall I say

    Hola

    to our
    listeners in
    M
    exico
    . Thank you for
    listening and
    leaving reviews on
    iTunes.
I really appreciate each and every single one of you and I don’t
    just appreciate the Mexicans
    ,
I love all of you. Thank you for listening.
Now, let’s get to the good stuff. In this episode
    ,
    you will learn some
helpful phrases to help you talk about your likes and dislikes.
    All right,
first you will learn five phrases you can use to talk about your likes and
then I will also give you three example sentences with each to ensure you
    understand
    .
    So, the first one,

    I like.

    1.
    I like swimming.
    2.
I like going dancing on Saturday nights.
    3.
    I like
    her;
she is a really nice person.
    Next is,

    I enjoy.

    1.
I enjoy listening to rock music.
    2.
I enjoyed reading the new book by Dr.
    Seuss
    .
    3.
    I enjoyed drinking t
    ea.
    Next is,

    I love,

and you can say you love something when you really
like it. It doesn’t mean you need to be in love with it. So, let’s see.
    1.
I love chocolate; I would eat it all day if I could.
    2.
I love hot weather; I wish I could live on a tropica
    l beach somewhere.
    3.
I love it when you wash all of the dishes and do all the chores before I
    get home from work.
    A
    ll right, next is

    I really like.

So, I really like is just an emphasis, a
    little bit more dramatic than

    I like.

    So
    ...
    1.
    I really like the n
    ew Disney movie.
    2.
    I really like see
    ing
    you again.
    3.
I really like eating Chinese food; it’s my favorite.
Now, you could say, also you could say,

    I am crazy about.

    So, that’s
when you really like something, may be you are
    obsessed with it, it’s
    awesome.
    So,
    ..
    1.
    I am crazy about
    Pinterest
    .
    I can't stop pi
nning cool things that I see.
    2.
I am crazy about the new cupcake shop downtown; th
    eir cupca
    kes are
    to die for.
    3.
    I am crazy about you.
Now, let’s move on and talk about things that you say when you do not
like something. So, three common phrases or sentence starters that you
can use to talk about your dislikes.
So, first you could say, I don’t like, it

    s pretty basic.
    1.
    I don’t like broccoli.
    2.
    I don’t like crying babies.
    3.
I don’t like Anna, she is really a
    nnoying.
    All right, next would be

    I can't stand

and I can't stand is a little bit
    stronger than

    I don’t like.

    So, be careful.
    1.
    I can't stand country music.
    2.
    I can't stand this weather.
    3.
    I can't stand waitin
g another minute for my sister,
    she is always late
    .
    A
nd then lastly, the last sentence starte
    r
    would be

    I hate

    and hate is a
strong word, so be careful, but not always. Some people that are dramatic
    like me use the word

    hate

to emphasize their feelings and it

    s not
    something that’s
just so absolutely horrible. They are just trying to be
    dramatic and expressive. So,
    ..
    1.
I hate cold weather. I am going to move somewhere warm.
    2.
I hate him, he never listens to me.
    3.
    I hate when things
break right after you buy them.
    A
    nd please notice when
I was talking about things that you don’t like, I
    didn’t say

    I dislike something

    ...
as one of the sentence starters. It isn’t
wrong to say I dislike, but it is rarely said or used in American English.
    So, it

s better to say I don’t like something than sayi
    ng I dislike
something. So, you should now have a good idea of how to express your
    likes to people oh
    -
your likes and dislikes, excuse me, to people in English.
Now, I am really excited to tell you about a course that we are offering
    starting in January.
