THE JUMBLIES. I. They went to sea in a sieve, they did; In a sieve they went to sea: In spite of all their friends could say, On a winter's morn, on a stormy day, In a sieve they went to sea. And when the sieve turned round and round, And every one cried, "You'll all be drowned!" They called aloud, "Our sieve ain't big; But we don't care a button, we don't care a fig: In a sieve we'll go to sea!" Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live: Their heads are green, and their hands are blue And they went to sea in a sieve. II. They sailed away in a sieve, they did, In a sieve they sailed so fast, With only a beautiful pea-green veil Tied with a ribbon, by way of a sail, To a small tobacco-pipe mast. Sinerukie Dzhambli
Poems by Edward Lear ,
Dina translation Krupskaya
At sea, they sailed in a sieve ,
They sailed away in a sieve .
There was a strong wind and a terrible storm
Burlyukal hail, thunder barabakal -
They sailed away in a sieve .
Spun , spun their sieve
They shouted : " You will drown , UTO ... "
But they laughed in response :
" No, what you are , of course not ! "
And sailed in a sieve .
Behind the blue wave green wave
Sinerukie Dzhambli live .
Farther and farther away , to land a
They swim in a sieve .
They sailed across the sea in a sieve ,
Fast and fun sailing .
Mast on a small tube of tobacco
Green sail - ah, how fortunate
Sail that they will not forget !
And all who saw them , shouting to each other :
" Imagine what would happen : there is wind and blizzard
The sky darkens, and their long way!
Hurry, hurry , they must return -
They sailed away in a sieve ! "
But soon the water began to arrive ,
Water started to arrive .
So they did not disturb chilly moisture
Heel they wrapped in paper -
And then it got warm .
Slept in a jug and night passed,
And everyone thought: " Yes, a considerable way ,
And the sky is not visible in a dark,
But we are sailing - and sailing in a sieve .
And we doplyvem there! "
Behind the blue wave green wave
Sinerukie Dzhambli live .
Farther and farther away , to land a
They swim in a sieve .
And the sun rose and faded again ,
Extinguished blue expanse .
And Dzhambli lunar song sang ,
And copper pipes glistened
In the shadow of the golden mountain :
"On Timbaloo how happy those
Who can in a jug and a sieve ,
Who is behind the moon all night long
Under the green sail into the distance swims
In the shadow of the golden mountains ! "
About Timbaloo ! ..
They visited the forgotten province
Amid the wild western waters.
Bought a pig and useful chairs,
And silver bees buzzing in the hive ,
And sour cranberry cake.
Live goat and green daw ,
And forty bottles of doo-doo - puzyryalki ,
And chimpanzees with candy -footed ,
And rice - he's completely different -
And cheese ! - But cheese does not count.
Behind the blue wave green wave
Sinerukie Dzhambli live .
Farther and farther away , to land a
They swim in a sieve .
And they came back twenty years later ,
And then all said, " Well !
They visited the country Koshmazhora
And even seen hills and lakes
On the island Chenkel -boat ! "
They made the best dumplings yeast
Glasses raised for the best men ,
And every thought, " We could also
To swim in a sieve to a beautiful land ,
To the hills and lakes Chenkel - Bot. "
And the original - for individual enjoyment :
THE JUMBLIES.
I.
They went to sea in a sieve, they did;
In a sieve they went to sea:
In spite of all their friends could say,
On a winter's morn, on a stormy day,
In a sieve they went to sea.
And when the sieve turned round and round,
And every one cried, "You'll all be drowned!"
They called aloud, "Our sieve ain't big;
But we don't care a button, we don't care a fig:
In a sieve we'll go to sea! "
Far and few, far and few,
Are the lands where the Jumblies live:
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue
And they went to sea in a sieve.
II.
They sailed away in a sieve, they did,
In a sieve they sailed so fast,
With only a beautiful pea-green veil
Tied with a ribbon, by way of a sail,
To a small tobacco-pipe mast.
And every one said who saw them go,
"Oh! won't they be soon upset, you know?
For the sky is dark, and the voyage is long;
And, happen what may, it's extremely wrong
In a sieve to sail so fast. "
Far and few, far and few,
Are the lands where the Jumblies live:
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue
And they went to sea in a sieve.
III.
The water it soon came in, it did;
The water it soon came in:
So, to keep them dry, they wrapped their feet
In a pinky paper all folded neat;
